Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Audrey Tan Shares about Financial Emotional Resilience® at HEX’s Generation Next

Aug 7
Singapore, 31 July 2025 — Audrey Tan, Co-Founder and CEO of PlayMoolah and the Wealth Resilience Institute, led an insightful masterclass for women entrepreneurs as part of HEX’s Generation Next, an entrepreneurial learning series. The session explored the concept of Financial Emotional Resilience® (FER), a transformative approach to financial wellbeing that goes beyond numbers, addressing the thoughts, emotions and behaviours that shape people’s relationship with money.

Held as part of Week 5 of the HEX x PlayMoolah collaboration, the session brought together over 30 aspiring and early-stage entrepreneurs from ASEAN, Timor Leste, and Australia. Audrey shared her personal journey as a purpose-led founder and offered practical tools to help participants build confidence and clarity in navigating financial challenges.

Participants were guided through key themes, including:

  • Understanding the emotional roots of money narratives
  • Reframing limiting beliefs into empowering mindsets
  • Developing daily money practices that foster resilience
  • Aligning financial decisions with personal and business values
“When women lead with confidence in their financial lives, the ripple effects are powerful. They reinvest in their families, communities, and in the future,” Audrey shared during the session.
A key moment of the session was the introduction of the FER framework, which illustrates how mental habits, emotional regulation and daily money practices intersect to build true financial resilience. Audrey invited participants to reflect on current money challenges in their businesses and apply this model to reframe limiting beliefs, regulate financial stress, and take small yet meaningful actions.
“Financial Emotional Resilience® isn’t just about how much you earn. It’s about how clearly you think, how calmly you respond, and how intentionally you act with your money,” Audrey shared.
The session also explored how inherited money narratives and subconscious beliefs can influence entrepreneurial decisions, often in ways we don’t realise. Using the FER model, participants were guided to surface and shift these narratives, transforming feelings of anxiety, shame or avoidance into empowered choices.

A series of reflection exercises helped attendees personalise their learning, including:

  • Identifying scripts they’ve internalised about money
  • Recognising how those beliefs impact current behaviours
  • Rewriting those scripts and setting clear, values-aligned goals for their business finances
Audrey also highlighted key data and insights showing the impact of FER, especially for women. Women-led ventures, she noted, often bring greater efficiency, collaboration and purpose-driven leadership, but many still face internal financial barriers that FER can help dismantle.

Key Takeaways from the Masterclass:

  • The FER framework offers a practical approach to financial wellbeing, grounded in mindset, emotion and behaviour

  • Women reinvest up to 90% of income into families and communities (Forbes, 2024)

  • Shifting internal money narratives can lead to greater clarity, confidence and business sustainability

  • Participants left with personalised strategies to take the next step in managing their finances with purpose
This masterclass reflects PlayMoolah’s commitment to reimagining financial education not only as a way to manage money, but as a catalyst for personal transformation and purpose-driven entrepreneurship. Through its collaboration with HEX and other organisations, PlayMoolah is promoting Financial Emotional Resilience® as an essential skillset for today’s founders, especially women who are leading ventures, nurturing communities, and shaping a more sustainable financial future.
